NTNU’s strategic research initiative on Sustainability is coming to end. The initiative was celebrated in a conference this week, where SustainDiT participated together with the SWELL project.
Our session was titled “Social sustainability and digital transformation – how to achieve better health and quality in our built environments?” This was a joint session between our SustainDiT project and the SWELL project which is coordinated by Sobah Abbas Petersen. Sobah and Gul Sher Ali from SWELL, and Michaela, Sameer, and Babak from SustainDiT held talks.
Michaela Schmidt talked about the complexity of welfare services provided to citizens, which often involve a network of employees, voluntary organizations, citizens and their families, and IT systems. She also discussed how insights from practices of offering and using these services can be fed into IT development processes.

Sameer Bhattarai from DigiPub talked about how digitalization can affect the meaning of work, and thereby affecting aspects of work such as mastery, purpose, and autonomy. Through an interview study, Sameer has investigated the relationship between electronic healthcare records and meaning of work.
